Moving body wedge grips are designed for secure and consistent tensile testing while minimizing unwanted forces on the specimen during clamping. Unlike conventional wedge designs where the jaw faces travel vertically as they close, the grip body moves to engage the specimen while the jaw faces remain at a fixed vertical position.

This design helps reduce axial compressive loading during specimen installation, which is particularly beneficial for specimens that may buckle, deform, or be sensitive to compressive forces before the tensile test begins.

Because the jaw faces maintain their vertical position during clamping, the specimen can be positioned at a predetermined location with a consistent grip-to-grip separation. This allows for more precise control of the gauge length and improves repeatability when preparing specimens for testing.

The combination of stationary jaw positioning, controlled gauge length, and reduced compressive preload makes moving body wedge grips a reliable solution for applications requiring accurate and repeatable tensile testing.

WM527 moving-body wedge grips come in capacities between 20kN (4,496lbf) and 150kN (33,720lbf). The moving-grip body design minimizes compressive loading during clamping by securing the specimen in place without changing the vertical position of the jaw faces. Instead, the grip body moves to close the jaws, allowing precise specimen positioning and consistent gauge lengths.
